Airbrush FAQ

1. What is Airbrush Makeup? Airbrushing is a patented makeup application technique that utilizes compressed air through an “airbrush” with drops of color (i.e.: foundation, blush, etc.) to spray on a fine mist of makeup. Most clients find the application technique rather soothing and since traditional brushes are not used during this technique you never have to worry about sanitation.

2. How does it feel? Most clients say they feel as if they aren’t even wearing makeup because airbrush makeup is exceptionally lightweight.

3. What are the benefits of airbrush makeup? Airbrush makeup provides flawless coverage by minimizing skin imperfections while giving the skin a beautifully natural finished looking result. Airbrush makeup is water resistant and will last for up to twelve hours or more.

4. Does it cover tattoos, scars, etc.? Yes with a proprietary, patented “paramedical” airbrush makeup covers all skin imperfections including tattoos, scars, vitiligo, stretch marks, post-op surgery patients can be concealed.

5. Is Airbrush Makeup right for everyone?” Airbrush makeup is suitable for women of all ages and every skin condition. The makeup is hypoallergenic and fragrance free. In fact, “Airbrush Makeup” is the only makeup that is suitable for the new “high definition,” standard in television.

6. What is an airbrush? An airbrush is a small pen-shaped tool that sprays fluids in a precise, controlled manner.

7. How does an airbrush work? Pressurized air (from a compressor, pressurized gas tank or propellant can) is forced through the airbrush, causing a vacuum that draws the paint into a stream of air. The air and paint are thoroughly mixed or atomized and then sprayed out.

8. How do you select an airbrush? The best airbrush for you is dependent upon your choice of application (fine art, mural painting, illustration, hobbies and crafts, fingernails and makeup, ceramics and sculpture, etc.) and/or your budget. Most artists today use single or dual action internal-mix airbrushes because they produce the finest sprays. All airbrushes can be used for all applications, but some are more suited to specific applications than others. For example, if you work a large area and need a large paint reservoir, then an airbrush that is adaptable to a jar is necessary. On the other hand, if you work on objects where minimal amounts of paint are used, e.g., photo retouching, then a slotted gravity feed airbrush is the best choice. The various types of airbrushes--side feed, gravity feed, and bottom feed--are available from all manufacturers in student to professional grades with corresponding prices.

9. What types of paints can be sprayed through an airbrush? Almost all paints can be airbrushed. However, it is very important to reduce or thin paints to a viscosity no thicker than milk so that they are fluid enough to be sprayed. For example, artist acrylic colors are thinned with water and oil paints are thinned with oil mediums before spraying.

Airbrush Makeup gaining popularity daily

Airbrush makeup has been used in movies and by models for quite some time now. Why is it now becoming more popular for home use?

How does Airbrush Makeup work?

A tiny amount of specialized foundation makeup is mixed with a few drops of water, and then airbrushed onto the face. The result is like if you ran your face through photoshop. With airbrush makeup you use less foundation, but with a flawless finish. It even hides under eye circles and other blemishes.

How long do cosmetics last?

Here's a list of commonly used cosmetics and their expected shelf life...

1. Mascara - will usually last 2 months or when the label is worn off, it clumps, specks, or becomes dry or smells bad

2. Foundation - has a shelf life of 18-24 months.

3. Powder - Expect 2 years unless it becomes dry or has an odor other than its original fragrance. You can protect your powder from contamination by being sure to change your sponge or powder puff after every application. Sponges are a haven for breeding bacteria and the fastest way to pass on germs.

4. Lip Pencils -1 year- Always dip in alcohol-kills germs

5. Eye pencils
-Typically 3 months. Always sharpen or dip in alcohol after each use.  Either of these methods will kill germs.

6. Eye Shadow and Blush - dry, loss of pigment. Always wipe off with alcohol

7. Brushes
- When your brushes start to look like fans and the tips become colored.  Keep brushes clean with brush cleaner or alcohol. I use alcohol for sterilizing my brushes and applicators. Use an alcohol with a strength of 90%. To clean brushes use a good brush cleaner. You can use soap and water but soap and water has a tendency to dry out brush bristles and reduce the longevity of your brushes.

TIP*
If you want to bring back the original shine on your makeup containers use Pledge furniture polish. Pledge shines a faded container and makes it look brand new.

TIP* Put a small piece of tape on the back of containers, and record the date you purchased it. This will assure that you will not use after the recommend expiration date.
